Reordered Lives: A Brain Purging

This week we are slowing the pace of life in general and reordering priorities, not in a spiritual sense, rather lifestylistically. (yes, I am well aware that  sounds horribly awkward but it is spelled correctly and I am keeping it there)  We are taking stock of personal goals and prayerfully putting things in a productive order. Academics and  music are coequals and are functionally top priority. They cannot fall by the wayside just because a day was interrupted. I have asked each of the girls to make a general outline of how each day and then each week should be ordered.

  • Is your goal to practice your instrument 5 days a week for and hour and a half or 6 days a week for 45 minutes?
  • Do you want to break practice into 2 separate times during the day? When you you practice best?
  • What book are you wanting to finish or start? How much time do you want to give to that per day- 30 minutes? an hour?
  • If you want to start your day with a walk, then you have to adjust your wake time to accommodate the activity.
  • If our day is interrupted, school work is not foregone, rather have your mind set to do it the following day and re-arrange as necessary.

We all have pet projects that are often neglected and so we are prioritizing these as well. Taylor has a second instrument that she enjoys, Hailey has a timeline she would like to catch up on and  Emma needs time for her photography. Even if they set aside specific days of the week for these endeavors, it will help them to stay consistent.

I tried to be clear that just because you have written a plan, that doesn't mean it is in stone. It is merely an outline-a guide- to remember what is needed and wanted to be accomplished.

Hopefully slowing down for a moment and getting our responsibilities and goals reordered will set a more consistent pace and rhythm for our lives.

<--Unfortunately, brain cleanser and detox does not come in a convenient box.
